ATTLEBORO — Superintendent David Sawyer and Principal Frank Rich are pleased to share that Thacher Elementary School hosted its annual Walk 2 School Day last week.
On Friday, May 3, 465 Thacher Elementary School students participated in the school’s 5th annual Walk 2 School Day.
Each year, the event serves as an opportunity for students to enjoy an outdoor walk and support a healthy lifestyle. The school hosts the event in partnership with the Attleboro Police Department, which sends police officers to walk with the students.
As students arrived at school on Friday morning, they were brought to the athletic field where they walked laps around the track alongside Attleboro Police officers and school staff. Once students completed their laps they made their way into the building to start their school day.
Students and staff then lined the hallways, holding banners and posters, and cheered as Attleboro Police officers made their way through the school hallways as part of a “Thank You Police” parade.
“Each year our annual Walk 2 School Day gives our students and staff the opportunity to get outside and get moving,” said Superintendent Sawyer. “It also allows us the opportunity to recognize the brave men and women of the Attleboro Police Department who serve our community. I would like to thank Physical Education Teachers Danny Rendell and Ryan Henry for organizing a successful day for all who participated.”
The event is part of the national Safe Routes to School annual walk to school day: https://www.walkbiketoschool.org/.
