UXBRIDGE — Superintendent Michael Baldassarre and Principal Michael Rubin are pleased to share that the Uxbridge High School Science Olympiad team had a successful run at the Massachusetts State Science Olympiad Division C State Tournament.
Science Olympiad is a nationwide competition designed to increase students’ interest in STEM fields and provide recognition for outstanding achievement in team events. The Massachusetts State Science Olympiad Division C State Tournament was held on Saturday, March 2 at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston.
The Uxbridge High School Science Olympiad team placed 14th out of 66 teams at the tournament, breaking last year’s record and improving from its previous 15th-place finish.
As part of the competition, team members decide which events they are most interested in during the month of September. Students then spend months leading up to the first invitational to be fully prepared for their events. Most of the prep work includes researching assigned topics, practicing sample problems and lab activities, perfecting prototypes, and performing mock competitions similar to the real thing.
During the competition, students competed in 22 events in categories including earth and space science, inquiry and nature of science, life, personal and social science, physical science and chemistry, and technology and engineering design.
All events were either knowledge tests, laboratory-based tasks, pre-builds, or a hybrid of all three.
“Science Olympiad is the best platform to meet students who share your passion for science. It is difficult, requiring a lot of work but can be equally rewarding,” said freshman Uxbridge High School Science Olympiad team member Saanvi Singh.

- Siobhan Twohig-Mann, Olivia Holden and Sebastian Bradwin – 7th place (Experimental Design)
