BRIDGEWATER — Chief John Schlatz reports that firefighters extinguished a two-alarm fire at an Oliver Place home on Sunday night.
At approximately 8:47 p.m. on Oct. 25, firefighters responded to a report of a basement fire at 70 Oliver Place. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the first floor of a two-story home. All residents had safely evacuated from the building.
Firefighters brought a hose line into the first floor and attempted to reach the basement, but extreme heat forced them to withdraw. A second crew brought a hose line to the rear of the home and knocked down flames extending from a rear window.
A second alarm was requested to bring additional resources to the scene.
Firefighters reentered the home and reached the basement, where they encountered heavy fire. Crews extinguished the fire and brought it under control approximately 40 minutes after the initial call.
The home sustained significant smoke and fire damage to the first and second floors. The residents are displaced.
No residents or firefighters were injured as a result of the fire.
A preliminary investigation determined that the fire originated in the area of the basement electrical panel. The cause remains under investigation.
Firefighters from East Bridgewater, West Bridgewater, Raynham, Middleboro, Easton and Brockton provided mutual aid at the scene. Halifax and Taunton firefighters provided station coverage.
“Our firefighters did a great job working through difficult conditions to get this fire under control,” said Chief Schlatz. “Thank you to our mutual aid departments for their help at the scene and for covering our station so crews were available for other calls in town.”
