Norwood Police Arrest Three Juvenile Suspects Following Sunday Home Invasion

Norwood Police arrested three juvenile suspects following a Sunday home invasion.

NORWOOD — Chief Christopher Padden reports that the Norwood Police Department arrested three juvenile suspects following a Sunday home invasion.

On Sunday, Oct. 4, at approximately 2:10 p.m., Norwood Police responded to the Chapel Street area following a report of a home invasion and armed robbery inside a residence.

Responding officers were advised that three male suspects, two of whom were masked, had fled the area after displaying a firearm, pistol-whipping and taking several items from the victim.

Officers immediately established a perimeter and began searching the surrounding area, including the railroad tracks and Washington Street corridor.

During the search, one individual believed to be connected to the incident was spotted on the railroad tracks and subsequently detained near the Norwood Central train station.

At approximately the same time, a Norwood Police Public Safety Aide monitoring the department’s traffic camera system observed two individuals matching the descriptions of the remaining suspects near Washington Street and Walnut Avenue and directed officers to their location.

When officers attempted to stop the two individuals, they fled on foot into the area of Press Avenue and Washington Street. Following a brief foot pursuit, officers took both individuals into custody at gunpoint and without injury.

Because officers had information that the suspects may still have been armed, additional officers responded and secured the area. During a subsequent search, a resident alerted officers to a handgun and loaded magazine lying on the ground in the area where the suspects had fled.

Police recovered a Taurus G2C 9mm handgun and a magazine containing nine rounds of ammunition.

Officers from Westwood, Foxborough, and Sharon Police Departments also responded with K-9 teams to assist with searches of the area for any other weapons.

During the investigation, officers recovered property believed to have been taken during the robbery. A firearm laser attachment was also recovered from one of the backpacks associated with the suspects.

The victim reported that a firearm equipped with a green laser had been displayed during the robbery. The description provided to officers was consistent with the type of firearm and accessory recovered during the investigation.

All of the suspects were juvenile residents of Boston, ages 15, 16, and 17, and one of them was known to the victim. They each face multiple charges, including home invasion, robbery, conspiracy, and possession of a firearm.

The incident remains under investigation by the Norwood Police Department. Additional charges may be sought as the investigation continues.

Chief Christopher Padden praised the coordinated response of the officers, dispatchers, Public Safety Aides, assisting K-9 units, and residents who provided information during the investigation.

“This was a fast-moving incident involving a report of an armed robbery and armed suspects fleeing through a populated area,” said Chief Padden. “Our officers quickly established a perimeter, used our available technology to locate the suspects, and safely took them into custody. I am particularly pleased that this incident was resolved without injury to our officers, the suspects, or members of the public.”

These charges are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
