MAYNARD — The Maynard Police and Fire Departments responded to Maynard High School on Friday morning and investigated an anonymous nonspecific threat against the school.
At this time, officials have given the “all-clear” and the school day has resumed normally.
Officials take all threats seriously, however a preliminary investigation indicates that the threat was most likely an act of “swatting” — a malicious hoax report intended to draw a significant emergency response to a location.
Public safety officials conducted a thorough search of the building and determined that the threat was not credible. The building was put into safe mode for about 90 minutes as a precaution, restricting student and staff movement during the immediate public safety response.
Out of an abundance of caution, school families are likely to notice the increased presence of police and fire crews at the school throughout the day Friday, including during dismissal.
