BILLERICA — Billerica Police is pleased to share that two members were promoted to supervisory positions last week, as a result of their commitment and dedication to the department and the community.
Sgt. Timothy McKenna was promoted to Lieutenant, and Officer Justin Guanci was promoted to Sergeant during a swearing-in ceremony.
Lt. McKenna is a lifelong Billerica resident who joined Billerica Police in 2000 after working for three years with Bedford Police.
In 24 years of service to the department, McKenna served as a Field Training Officer for 25 less experienced officers, helping them to get to the know the community and the job before they patrol on their own.
Lt. McKenna worked as a detective in the Criminal Bureau from 2018 to 2023, when he was promoted to provisional and then permanent sergeant. As a sergeant, he supervised the late-night shift and then commanded the Traffic Enforcement Bureau.
Lt. McKenna is an original member of the department’s Social Media Team and serves as the department’s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) representative, overseeing departmental efforts to keep sensitive information secure. He has also overseen operational plans at numerous town-wide events, such as the 250th Celebration at Vietnam Veteran’s Park.
Sgt. Guanci joined Billerica Police in 2019 and served in several leadership roles as a patrolman, including working as a detective in the Criminal Bureau. He also served as a Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, and TASER Instructor.
Sgt. Guanci holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology from Merrimack College.
“Throughout my career, I have remained committed to professionalism, teamwork, and serving the Billerica community, and I look forward to continuing that commitment in a leadership role as Sergeant,” he said.
“Lt. McKenna and Sgt. Guanci are experienced, dedicated, and truly professional law enforcement officers and I believe they will thrive in their new supervisory positions,” said Chief Roy Frost. “I congratulate both men, and ask the community to welcome them to their new roles.”
