Dracut Fire Department Extinguishes Shed Fire

DRACUT — Chief Michael Cunha reports that the Dracut Fire Department quickly contained and extinguished a shed fire Monday morning.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 21, the Dracut Fire Department responded to a single-family home on Doyle Avenue for a report of a shed fire. 

Crews observed heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear of the home. Dracut Fire Car 4 and Engine 1 arrived first and performed an aggressive exterior attack to knock down the fire before it could fully spread to the home.

The homeowner evacuated the home before crews arrived after a neighbor knocked on their door to alert them to the fire.

The home sustained minor damage to the exterior siding, but crews prevented further damage.

The Dracut Fire Department’s initial investigation determined that the fire was likely caused by embers on a charcoal grill that ignited decking in the rear of the house. Investigators believe the fire smoldered overnight before igniting Monday morning. 

“I would like to commend our Dracut firefighters for their quick and aggressive attack that kept the fire from spreading and causing major damage to the house,” said Chief Cunha. “This fire could’ve been a much larger incident had the homeowner not been alerted to the fire by a neighbor, allowing the Department to respond and launch a quick attack to keep the fire contained.”
