Woburn Public Schools Awarded $69,383 in Grant Funding from the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

WOBURN — Superintendent Matthew Crowley and Director of Child Nutrition Services Lisa Toumayan are pleased to announce that Woburn Public Schools has been awarded $69,383 through the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP).

The FFVP is a nationwide program that operates in elementary schools to support healthy choices, healthy outcomes and healthy families.

Woburn met the program’s eligibility requirements through its substantial increase in breakfast participation, surpassing the 60% threshold through the success of the district’s Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) program. The BIC program provides free breakfast to students right at their desks, fueling them for the day.

Five of Woburn’s schools will receive funding in the following amounts:

  • Goodyear Elementary – $15,969.14
  • Linscott-Rumford Elementary – $10,863.02
  • Shamrock Elementary – $15,068.06
  • Malcom White Elementary – $16,118.32
  • Mary D. Altavesta Elementary – $11,363.62

Through these funds, students will receive fresh fruits and vegetables, nutrition education, and opportunities to try new foods.

“I am proud to share that Woburn Public Schools has been recognized for its achievements in nutrition, which led us to receive this grant,” said Toumayan. “Through this funding, our elementary students will have greater access to healthy choices, allowing them to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.”
