NORTH READING — Chief Don Stats reports that the North Reading Fire Department quickly extinguished a house fire Thursday morning.
At approximately 8:36 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, the North Reading Fire Department responded to a report of a working structure fire at 8 Swan Pond Road. Initial responding units included Engine 3, Ladder 1, and North Reading Fire command staff comprised of Chief Stats, Deputy Matt Carroll and Lieutenant Jon Burt.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke showing from the left side of the residence. Engine 3 crews, including Captain Brian Nash, Firefighters Jeff Carey and Liam Tannian, immediately began an attack on the fire and quickly knocked it down, containing it to the area of origin. Engine 2, Captain Mike Tannian, Firefighters Jason Tannian and Nathan Dimeco, arrived shortly after and assisted with fire suppression, overhaul, and support operations. Ladder 1 staff, Lt. Tyler Samost, Firefighters Andrew Sievert and Ian Helmick, deployed the aerial ladder to the roof and conducted an additional search of the home.
The homeowner had safely evacuated prior to the firefighters’ arrival and was able to rescue their dog. The homeowner was evaluated on scene and transported by Reading Ambulance for treatment of smoke inhalation.
No other injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
Mutual aid assistance was provided on scene by the Middleton Fire Department. Wilmington Fire Department and Lynnfield Fire Department provided station coverage. Reading Ambulance provided EMS services, and Rehab 5 also responded.
“Thanks to our increased staffing levels, we were able to quickly knock down this fire with two fully staffed engines, a ladder, and complete command staff, filling the positions needed to effectively operate,” said Chief Stats. “Our firefighters made an excellent stop on this fire, containing it quickly and preventing it from spreading beyond the area where it originated. I want to also thank our mutual aid partners for their continued support, which helps ensure we can continue to provide a high level of service to our community.”
The cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious and remains under investigation by the North Reading Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
