NEWBURY – The Newbury Fire Department is currently on-scene of a serious crash on Route 95 north.
On Thursday, July 16, at about 3:45 p.m., Newbury Fire was dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on Route 95 north just past the on-ramp to Central Street near exit 88.
Upon arrival, Newbury Fire located a tractor-trailer and a car that appeared to have been involved in the crash. Newbury Fire utilized hydraulic cutting tools to extricate the driver of the car.
The driver of the vehicle was transported to a Boston hospital via medical helicopter for what are believed to be serious injuries. Their condition is unknown at this time.
Georgetown Fire, Rowley Fire, and Atlantic Ambulance provided mutual aid at the scene.
The highway is open to one lane of traffic at this time. Commuters are urged to travel with caution and avoid the area if possible.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police.
