WOBURN — Principal Ken Kessaris is pleased to share that Linscott-Rumford Elementary School was awarded a $2,237.03 grant from the Woburn Community Education Foundation (WCEF) to build and maintain school gardens.
The garden has become a learning experience for students, allowing them to prepare for the garden, plant seedlings, and maintain it throughout the year.
Student enthusiasm has been steadfast throughout the process as they learned about pollinators, native plants, and the importance of gardens in supporting healthy ecosystems.
The garden is home to a variety of perennial fruits and pollinator-friendly plants that will continue to grow for years to come. Plants and materials were ordered through Mahoney’s Garden Center, a local garden center and growing facility.
“Students were incredibly helpful, hardworking, and curious throughout the project,” said Principal Kessaris. “They asked thoughtful questions, worked collaboratively, and took great pride in contributing to something that will benefit both our school community and local wildlife.”
Linscott-Rumford Elementary would like to thank the WCEF for their generous donation and looks forward to continuing to provide students with hands-on learning experiences.
WCEF’s grant programs provide classroom materials, educational resources, and professional development opportunities that cannot be funded through the regular City of Woburn budget. Grants awarded by the Foundation support projects that enrich curriculum, foster student engagement, and provide educators with opportunities to expand their skills and knowledge.
