Attleboro Firefighters Quickly Extinguish Truck Fire, Prevent Spread to Nearby Home

ATTLEBORO — Chief Scott Lachance reports that Attleboro firefighters quickly extinguished a pickup truck fire Monday afternoon, preventing the large flames that consumed the vehicle from spreading to a nearby home.

At approximately 1:27 p.m., on Monday, June 8, Attleboro Fire Department crews were dispatched to 5 Bishop Ave. for a report of a vehicle fire with multiple explosions adjacent to a residence.

Upon arrival, crews found a construction pickup truck heavily involved in fire and positioned close to the home. Heat from the fire had already begun melting the home’s vinyl siding.

Firefighters immediately initiated an aggressive fire attack and brought the blaze under control in approximately 10 minutes, preventing further damage to the residence.

During overhaul operations, firefighters located multiple compressed gas cylinders inside the vehicle that had ruptured during the fire, accounting for several explosions reported by witnesses.

“This fire had the potential to spread to the home,” said District Chief Mike Maitland. “The siding had already begun melting from the heat, and the structure could have become involved if crews had not acted so quickly. Thanks to the professionalism of our Attleboro Firefighters, the fire was swiftly brought under control, preventing more extensive property damage.”

Members of the Attleboro Fire Investigation Unit responded to determine the cause of the fire. The cause remains under investigation but is not considered suspicious at this time.

The Attleboro Building Department was also requested to the scene to evaluate damage to the residence.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Crews cleared the Bishop Avenue scene at approximately 2:14 p.m.
