Norfolk Police Investigating Attempted Vehicle Theft, Subsequent Truck Theft in Wrentham

NORFOLK — Chief James Barrett reports that the Norfolk Police Department is investigating an attempted vehicle theft at Carvana early Tuesday morning that led to the theft of a company truck from a nearby business.

At approximately 2 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, Norfolk Police were notified by security personnel at Carvana, 269 Dedham St., that three individuals had entered the secured rear vehicle storage lot and were attempting to steal a vehicle.

Security personnel reported that the suspects appeared to be using tools while attempting to gain access to a Dodge Challenger parked on the property.

Officers responded immediately and entered the secured lot to search for the suspects. Upon arrival, officers learned the suspects had fled into a nearby wooded area.

During a search of the property, officers located a Dodge Challenger that had been entered and showed signs of tampering.

As part of the investigation, officers also located a 2020 BMW X3 near the entrance gate. The vehicle was determined to have been stolen from Lynnfield. Officers further recovered a Rhode Island license plate inside the vehicle that had been reported stolen from Rumford, Rhode Island.

Massachusetts State Police responded to assist with the investigation.

Investigators subsequently determined that the suspects fled through a wooded area to a business in neighboring Wrentham, where they allegedly stole a company truck and fled the area.

The stolen truck was later recovered by the Pawtucket Police Department in Rhode Island.

“This appears to have been a coordinated effort involving multiple stolen vehicles and property crimes across several jurisdictions,” said Chief Barrett. “We appreciate the assistance of our law enforcement partners as we continue to investigate and work to identify those responsible.”

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Norfolk Police Department at 508-528-3206.
