Assabet Valley Student Sworn in as Massachusetts Probation Co-Commissioner for a Day

MARLBOROUGH — Superintendent Ernest Houle is pleased to share that Assabet Valley Regional Vocational School senior Lillianna Sauer was sworn in as Co-Commissioner for the Day by the Massachusetts Probation Service on May 19.

The ceremony, held at the Office of the Commissioner of Probation in Boston, featured Sauer being sworn in by Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Trial Court Heidi Brieger, alongside Court Administrator Thomas Ambrosino. During the event, Sauer ceremonially co-signed probation-related legislation with Pamerson Ifill, who hosted the recognition.

The distinction has only been awarded to three other students in recent years, making Sauer the fourth.

The honor reflects Sauer’s creativity and commitment to her community. The recognition program, led by Commissioner Ifill, celebrates students across the Commonwealth who demonstrate academic achievement, service and resilience.

Sauer, who is an honors student at Assabet Valley, had her recent artwork featured during a Cultural Celebration Day at Marlborough District Court. At the celebration day in Marlborough, Commissioner Ifill noted the strong representation of diversity in Sauer’s piece and asked to display it in his Boston office.

In addition to her artistic accomplishments, Sauer is an active volunteer in her community. She is seen regularly visiting senior centers, where she assists residents with technology and support, helping to bridge the digital divide.

“As Lillianna’s art teacher, I am extremely proud of her for receiving such high recognition,” said Assabet Valley Art Teacher Mary Kate Gaide. “She created a meaningful work of art with influence from Pablo Picasso that honors and celebrates diversity. It was exciting to see art and criminal justice come together in the city of Boston. Lilli has been a dedicated art student who is attending New England Institute of Technology in the fall, where she plans to study Animation.”
