MIDDLEBOROUGH — The Middleborough Police Department is pleased to share that School Resource Officer Brian Wiksten recently received the Massachusetts Juvenile Police Officer’s Association Excellence in Service Award.

Officer Wiksten received the award in recognition of his dedication to the students and staff of Middleborough Public Schools. He was honored during the 20th annual New England School Safety Conference in early May.

Officer Wiksten serves as a School Resource Officer at Middleborough High School, where he works closely with students, staff and families to support a safe and welcoming school environment. He also serves as the handler for Millie, the department’s comfort dog, who helps provide emotional support to students and community members.

Officer Wiksten is also the assistant varsity basketball coach at Middleborough High School.

“Officer Wiksten represents the very best of what a School Resource Officer can be,” said Chief Robert Ferreira Jr. “He is trusted by students and staff because he takes the time to get to know them and supports them every day. His work with Millie has added another meaningful layer to that service. We are proud to see Brian recognized for the positive impact he has had throughout our school community.”

The nomination letter for Officer Wiksten described him as “an exceptional presence in the high school community” who consistently goes above and beyond to ensure students feel safe, supported and valued.

“Officer Wiksten’s dedication, empathy, and innovative approach to school safety make him highly deserving,” the nomination letter stated.
