Winthrop Police Investigating Shooting Incident at Apartment Building

WINTHROP — The Winthrop Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday morning at an apartment building on Beacon Street.

At approximately 8:37 a.m. on May 24, the Metro North Regional Emergency Communications Center received multiple calls reporting a disturbance at 26 Beacon St.

Initial reports indicated a verbal argument was taking place and that a firearm may have been involved.

Officers responded immediately and located an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers and emergency personnel rendered medical aid on scene before the victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with what appeared to be serious, life-threatening injuries.

As a result of an on-scene investigation, Winthrop Police quickly detained one person of interest for questioning.

Winthrop Police secured the scene and notified Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

At this time, investigators believe the incident was not random and that the individuals involved are known to one another. There is no danger to the public.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
