WEST NEWBURY — Superintendent Justin Bartholomew is pleased to share that members of the Pentucket High School Changemakers Student Leadership Team attended the Essex County Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Law and Education Breakfast on Thursday, May 7.
Students Abigail McIntyre, Harrison Gesing, Grayson Shikes and Beneth Pelaez represented Pentucket at the event, which was held at the Danversport Yacht Club. The breakfast was held to promote inclusion and address hate and bias within schools and communities.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Brent Conway attended alongside students, as did West Newbury Police Chief Mike Dwyer. Pentucket students were seated with student leaders from Newburyport Public Schools, fostering collaboration and shared learning between the districts.
The breakfast brought together Essex County educators, students, and law enforcement officers, bringing awareness to ongoing efforts combatting hate and bias and the importance of school communities where all students feel that they belong.
During the event, Pentucket students had the opportunity to engage with leaders, including Attorney General Andrea Campbell.
The Changemakers Student Leadership Team participates in extensive annual training designed to equip students with the tools to lead meaningful conversations and workshops. Members then facilitate sessions for middle school students and their peers, helping to promote empathy, respect, and inclusion throughout the district.
The program is supported by faculty advisors Mark Dziedziak and Keith Sherman.
“The district is proud to have these students as a representation of Pentucket’s values of inclusion and respect,” says Superintendent Bartholomew. “Opportunities like this reinforce the importance of student voices and leadership in our school communities.”
