WOBURN — Superintendent Matthew Crowley shared that students at the Malcolm White School were recently visited by State Rep. Richard Haggerty, along with parents, Woburn High School students, and community members in celebration of Read Across America Week.

Rep. Haggerty is an advocate of public education and consistently shows his support to Woburn Public Schools throughout the school year.

The visit provided community members with the opportunity to connect with students and staff, promoting the importance of literacy and a love of reading. Each community member or reader was encouraged to bring an appropriate grade-level book from home, or they were able to pick from the classroom library based on students’ recommendations.

Guests spent time interacting with students and engaging in learning experiences throughout the school.

The visit was an opportunity for members of the community to see the hard work happening in the school and demonstrate the importance and enjoyment of reading.

“Visits like this remind us how powerful community involvement can be in shaping our students,” said Crowley. “Bringing together families, students and local leaders shows our shared commitment to literacy and learning.”

Read Across America Week is a nationwide initiative designed to encourage reading and literacy among students of all ages. Through events like this, Woburn Public Schools continues to strengthen community partnerships and support academic growth.

To further celebrate reading, the school will host its annual Literacy Night on March 18. This event will celebrate reading through a variety of engaging activities for students and their families.
