HAMPTON — The Hampton School District, in partnership with Lane Memorial Library, invites community members, parents and guardians of Hampton students to take part in the second annual Community Read starting in November.
Participants will meet once a month for four months and share their thoughts about “The Let Them Theory” by New York Times bestselling author Mel Robbins. Robbins proposes that finding self-fulfillment means asserting oneself and refusing to give power to other people’s opinions, judgements, and drama.
“There were so many interesting and thoughtful conversations during last year’s Community Read. We chose ‘Let Them’ because it helps to build resilience and healthy connections by shifting energy from trying to change others to empowering oneself. We thought it would be a book that parents, staff, and community members could relate to, given the topic,” Superintendent Dr. Lois Costa said. “We’re grateful to Lane Memorial Library for partnering with us again this year.”
Sessions are held on the first Tuesday of each month, from 7-8 p.m. at Hampton Academy, 29 Academy Ave. The reading schedule is:
- Tuesday, Nov. 4: Chapters 1-4
- Tuesday, Dec. 2, Chapters 5-10
- Tuesday, Jan. 6, Chapters 11-15
- Tuesday, Feb. 3, Chapters 16-20
Participants are encouraged to arrive at each session having read the assigned chapters so discussion can flow freely during the allotted time. Free copies of the book are available at the library.
This program is free and open to all Hampton School District parents and community members.
Those interested are asked to register by contacting Dr. Costa at lcosta@sau90.org or Community Experience Librarian Cameron Rees at crees@hampton.lib.nh.us.
