AVON — The Avon Fire Department is pleased to announce that Firefighter Tatum Matthews graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s Career Recruit Firefighting Training Program Class #331 on Friday.

Firefighter Matthews was joined by his mother, father, and sister to celebrate the culmination of an intense 10-week training program to prepare him for his career with the Avon Fire Department.

He just celebrated his one-year anniversary with Avon Fire on Aug. 5, and has already proven to be a great asset in that short time, showing all the qualities that will make him successful in the fire service.

In addition to completing the recruit class, Firefighter Matthews also successfully completed a paramedic program and earned his paramedic license in March, further showcasing his dedication to the department and the community.

“We are extremely proud of Firefighter Matthews for successfully completing this rigorous 10-week recruit training program,” said Assistant Fire Chief Brad Cronin. “In just one year with the department, he has already demonstrated tremendous dedication, skill, and commitment to serving our community, and we are confident this experience will only strengthen those qualities.”
