ROCKPORT — Town Administrator Mitchell Vieira and Fire Chief Mark Wonson regret to announce that active-duty Rockport Fire Capt. Andrew Porter died unexpectedly today.
Capt. Porter passed away Monday, May 26, at Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, surrounded by loved ones.
He was a 25-year veteran of the Rockport Fire Department and most recently served as the captain of Engine Companies 1 and 3. He was also a specialist in the Rockport Department of Public Works Highway Division.
“We are heartbroken and mourning the loss of Capt. Andrew Porter — a dedicated firefighter, trusted leader and beloved member of our Rockport Fire Department family,” said Chief Wonson. “His passing leaves a deep void in our hearts and our community, and we’ll carry his memory with us every day.”
Capt. Porter was 43 years old and is survived by his wife, two daughters, parents and sister.
“Our hearts are with Capt. Porter’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” said Town Administrator Vieira. “His service to Rockport reflected the very best of this community, and we all deeply feel his loss.”
