NORTH READING — Chief Don Stats reports that the North Reading Fire Department responded quickly to a 911 call reporting a fire on Monday afternoon and extinguished the flames before they could cause significant damage to a home that is under construction.
On Monday, April 28, at approximately 2:40 p.m., North Reading Fire Dispatcher Chris Hadley took a 911 call and engaged the caller to determine there was a fire at 27 Orchard St.
The crew of North Reading Fire Engine 2 — Capt. Matt Carroll, Firefighters Jim Casallato, Tyler Samost and Nate Dimeco — arrived at the scene just three minutes later and found a fire in the roof of a split-level home that was under construction.
Firefighters Casallato and Samost stretched a hose line up a ladder to the fire while Firefighter Dimeco operated the fire engine pump, and the blaze was extinguished before it could spread beyond the roof.
There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Reading Fire Department covered North Reading’s station.
“The crew of Engine 2 did a great job stretching a line up over a ladder to the roof area for a quick knockdown,” said Capt. Matt Carroll. “This fire could have been much worse if not for the training and experience of our firefighters, and their swift response.”
