MIDDLEBOROUGH — Town Manager Jay McGrail and the Planning & Community Development Department would like to invite community members to sponsor a tree for the Town’s first annual Remembrance Trees on the Lawn display.
This December, for the first time in Middleborough, the Town will be hosting a monthlong display of trees that will serve as a remembrance of lost loved ones.
The Town has allotted 30 5-7-foot Fraser fir trees from Williams Trading Post to illuminate the lawn at the Town Hall. Those who sponsor a tree can decorate it in memory of a family member or friend. The trees are pre-lit, and the lights will be on every night during December.
Remembrance trees cost $75 each. Community members interested in reserving a tree must pay in person, by check, at the Planning & Community Development Office, Town Hall Annex-2nd Floor, 20 Center St.
Concord Electric will supply the electrical materials, and T.W. Electric will donate its time for installation. Additionally, students from Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School will assist in the setup.
Trees will be available for decorating on Friday, Nov. 29, on the Town Hall Lawn.
The Town hopes the event will become self-sufficient and plans to use funds to purchase trees and supplies for the following year. Any additional proceeds would be donated to a local charity that is to be determined.
