Summer Sweat Series: HIIT Class with REVamp Training

  • Saturday, June 8 from 10-11 a.m.
  • Olmsted Lawn, Main Library, 40 Washington St. 

Join the Thomas Crane Public Library in bringing back Summer Sweat. They will be hosting free workouts with local trainers on the Olmsted lawn on the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of each month this summer, from June to August. On Saturday, June 8, community members are invited to join Jeremy & REVamp Training for a full-body workout that tests your upper, lower, and core muscles.

Jeremy Colon, Founder and Co-Founder of REVamp Training is a highly accomplished personal trainer who possesses a wealth of knowledge and expertise in his craft. Colon has dedicated his life to the field of health and wellness and has a passion for helping people reach their ultimate fitness goals. 

Registration for this event is encouraged. Participants are asked to bring water, a mat, and comfortable workout clothes. Learn more about REVamp Training here.

Concerts at the Crane: Jean Danton & Luke Molloy ~ Vocalist & Piano

  • Sunday, June 9 from 3-4 p.m.
  • Richardson Building, Main Library, 40 Washington St. 

Community members are invited to join the staff of the Thomas Crane Public Library for an afternoon of cabaret with soprano Jean Danton and pianist Luke Molloy. Danton has appeared throughout the United States, having collaborated with a plethora of renowned conductors. She is currently on Voice Faculty at Boston College, Salem State University, and New England Conservatory of Music (SCE). 

Mr. Molloy, a recent graduate of Berklee College of Music where he earned a Bachelor of Music in professional music, hails from Quincy and works as a music director, pianist, and conductor. He boasts credits including major productions from a multitude of playhouses across the country. He has directed concerts locally in Quincy, as well as cabarets at 54 Below in New York City.

Local Author Talk – “Coming Out, Becoming Ourselves: Lesbian Stories from the Boston Daughters of Bilitis, 1969-1999”

The Thomas Crane Public Library invites community members to join author Sarah Boyer as she gives a presentation about her new book, “Coming Out, Becoming Ourselves: Lesbian Stories from the Boston Daughters of Bilitis,1969-1999.” Boyer wrote the book as a tribute to  Lois Johnson, a former president of the Boston Daughters of Bilitis (DOB), who passed away in 2020 and had wanted a book published on the history of the Boston-Cambridge DOB. 

Sarah Boyer served as oral historian at the Cambridge (MA) Historical Commission from 1997-2015, and has authored a plethora of books involving Cambridge and its role in various eras of American history, such as World War II.

After Hours: Camp Crane!

Community members are invited to join staff of the Thomas Crane Public Library on the Olmsted Lawn for an evening of nostalgic summer camp fun, featuring music, ice cream, and a cash bar. This event is free with no registration required, and is open to anyone who is 21 years of age and older.

Hate Ticks? Tick Bite Prevention with Blake Dinius

  • Monday, June 17 from 7-8 p.m. 
  • Community Meeting Room, Main Library, 40 Washington St. 

Join Blake Dinius, who has made his career out of studying ecotoxicology and directing studies on bees, lacewings, springtails, earthworms, and other critters, as he leads a workshop on learning science-based information that will help to keep you and your family healthy and safe from tick-induced disease. Dinius aims to spread awareness and understanding of tick biology, and to subsequently lessen panic and trepidation related to going outdoors in the summer. No registration is required for this event.

Summer Solstice Astrolo-Tea Soiree

  • Tuesday, June 18 from 7-8 p.m. 
  • Richardson Building, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

Join reference librarian and astrology enthusiast Rosie for a fun and informative talk about astrology. Participants will enjoy tea and snacks as they listen to Rosie discuss the 12 signs, individual birth charts and how to read them, as well as the upcoming planetary transits for the summer season. Registration is not required, nor is prior knowledge of astrology required. However, we ask that you bring a copy of your birth chart with you, which you can access here.

Trees and Tiny Forests in Quincy

  • Tuesday, June 25 from 7-8:30 a.m.
  • Community Meeting Room, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

Community members are invited to join the Quincy Tree Alliance as they welcome two expert panelists, who will be discussing the tiny forests of Quincy. These two experts are Dan Cathcart and Maria Andrews. Cathcart is the city of Quincy’s tree warden and will discuss plans to plant tiny “Miyawaki” forests in the city using federal grant money. Andrews is a resident of Quincy who researched and planted a Miyawaki forest in her backyard. No registration is required for this event. To learn more about the Quincy Tree Alliance, click here

Rush Hour Reading Group: Right of Way

  • Tuesday, June 25, from 7-8:30 p.m.
  • Classroom, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

 Join the Thomas Crane Public Library as they partner with Quincycles for a book discussion series to explore transportation equity, multimodal access, and how our built environment keeps us safe (or not). This is an opportunity for those with a strong interest in transportation and a passion for learning more about the inner workings of this industry to come together and discuss and debate ideas. This month, the discussion book in question will be “Right of Way: race, class, and the Silent Epidemic of pedestrian deaths in America” by Angie Schmitt. A limited number of copies will be available for pickup at the Main Library Circulation Desk beginning May 20. ‘

My Dearest Friend: John and Abigail Adams Play

  • Wednesday, June 26 from 7-8:30 p.m.

The Thomas Crane Public Library invites community members to spend an evening listening to Joe Alberti and Genoa Davidson speak about their forthcoming play, “My Dearest Friend”, which depicts the life of John and Abigail Adams based on their letters. Alberti and Davidson will talk about the research and work creating the play, read part of the play’s draft, and lead a discussion on the recreation of the historic, Revolutionary War-era dialect. 

Joe Alberti (PhD) has extensive coaching and acting experience. A graduate of the Yale School of Drama, Alberti has worked extensively at Shakespeare & Company and has served as voice, speech, dialect, and text coach on many theatrical and film productions. Genoa Davidson is an actor, coach, voice teacher, Alexander Technique teacher (AmSAT), and writer. Both Alberti and Davidson have recently accepted a book contract based on their work recreating the Revolutionary War dialect.

Banned Book Club @ Wollaston

  • Wednesday, June 26 7-8 p.m. 
  • Wollaston, Wollaston Library, 41 Beale St.

Join the staff of the Thomas Crane Public Library at the Wollaston Library in Quincy in taking part in a new, bi-monthly book discussion that will feature frequently challenged and banned books. Discussions will take place every other month at the Wollaston Library. This month, the book in question will beThe Hate U Give”by Angie Thomas. Copies of the book will be available at the Wollaston Library starting on May 1. No registration is required for this event.

Pride Reading Picnic on Olmsted Lawn

  • Saturday, June 29 from 10-12 p.m.
  • Olmsted Lawn, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

Community members are invited to join the Thomas Crane Public Library in closing out Pride Month with their Pride Reading Picnic. Participants will enjoy delicious snacks and tea and mingle with fellow bookworms. Together, we will discuss LGBTQIA+ stories that feature diverse voices and vibrant narratives and thus spread the joy of reading and acceptance together. Participants are asked to bring their favorite blanket or chair and pack a book of their choosing. No registration is required for this event.
