WHITMAN — Chief Timothy Clancy reports that the Whitman Fire Department extinguished a fire at a home on Glen Street Monday afternoon.
On Monday, Dec. 11 at 4:16 p.m., Whitman Fire responded to a report of a structure fire at 135 Glen St.
Whitman Fire Deputy Chief Jason Mahoney was the first to arrive on scene and reported fire showing from the first floor of a two-story wood-frame home.
The two occupants of the home had safely evacuated the house before firefighters arrived. One occupant was evaluated on scene and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation by a Hanover Fire Ambulance.
The fire was knocked down by approximately 4:30 p.m.Firefighters remained on scene until 8 p.m., conducting extensive overhaul.
The house was deemed uninhabitable. The two residents of the home have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross and family members.
Mutual aid on scene was provided by the Hanson Fire Department and East Bridgewater Fire Department. Abington Fire provided station coverage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Whitman Fire Department, Whitman Police Department and the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
