BEDFORD – The Facilities Information and Communication Committee is pleased to announce that it has released its first video about the ongoing Public Safety Building Project, as part of its effort to inform community members ahead of a March 2024 vote.
The Town has worked on addressing public safety space needs since 2000. Following an extensive Town-wide space needs study, it was decided to move forward with a plan for a police station and fire substation on South River Road.
The video, narrated by longtime resident and Facilities Information and Communications Committee member Sue Mullen, may be viewed on the Bedford Community Television’s YouTube page.
The video highlights:
- The significant growth in Bedford in the past 30 years.
- The resulting increase in public safety service calls.
- The required increase in police and fire staffing to maintain high-quality services and ongoing safety and security of residents.
- Current conditions at the Public Safety Complex on Constitution Drive, which no longer meet the demands of 21st century public safety, nor adequately protect the health and safety of Bedford’s first responders.
Future videos will provide an overview of the existing Safety Complex, showing the risks, liabilities, and safety issues that first responders must deal with on a daily basis, details on the layout and functionality of the new facility, and its estimated cost.
Residents may learn more about the Public Safety Building Project on the Facilities Projects page of the Town website. Residents with questions may contact Assistant Town Manager Jeanne Walker at jwalker@bedfordnh.org.
