BURLINGTON — Library Director Michael Wick is pleased to share that the Friends of the Burlington Public Library and Burlington Mall have partnered to host and curate materials for a Little Free Library.
The new Little Free Library is located at The Park at Burlington Mall, which built the Library, and is filled with books donated by the Friends as part of the group’s ongoing efforts to foster a love of reading in the community while providing new life for donated items. The Little Free Library is stocked with books for people of all ages.
The Little Free Library has been installed at the outdoor park at the mall, and will complement the StoryWalk the organizations partnered to create earlier this year.
“The Friends came to mind as a natural partner for this project when our mall colleagues came up with the idea for it,” Wick said, “and we’re grateful to the Friends, as well as Burlington Mall, for their efforts to make this a reality and build upon the success of the StoryWalk.”
Sheila Hennessy, Director of Marketing and Business Development, developed the idea and worked with the Friends to make it a reality.
“We are excited to offer Burlington residents a Bigger, Better Burlington Mall with a whole new era of shopping, socializing and dining,” Hennessy said “The community is welcome to take a book or share a book from the Little Free Library located in the new outside green space, The Park. The partnership with Burlington Public Library and The Friends of The Burlington Public Library is an integral part of our family programming and we are thrilled to promote reading in the community.”
The new installation at the mall is one of five little free libraries registered in Burlington, and residents can find the other four on the organization’s online map by clicking here. People are encouraged to take a book and pass it along to a friend after they’re done.
“The Friends of the Burlington Public Library are thrilled to continue our community partnership with Burlington Mall by maintaining the Little Free Library at The Park.” said Virginia Churchill Shahid, President, Friends of the Burlington Public Library. “We are particularly pleased to be supporting a cause that matters to us, reducing, reusing, and repurposing — in this case donated books.”
