Town of Stoneham Selects Cataldo Ambulance as Emergency Medical Services Provider

STONEHAM — Town Administrator Dennis Sheehan and Fire Chief Matthew Grafton report that the Town of Stoneham, after an open and competitive process, has selected Cataldo Ambulance as the town’s ambulance and emergency medical dispatch vendor.

The Somerville-based company put forth the best proposal and was selected over several other companies for a three-year contract to provide Stoneham with a high level of emergency medical services, logistics and training.

“We are excited to announce our partnership with Cataldo Ambulance,” Chief Grafton said. “As we turn a new page, our community will have access to the most modern and advanced emergency medical services and equipment.”

Cataldo Ambulance’s proposal and presentation to the Town of Stoneham was judged based on its equipment/ambulance availability, low ambulance rates to customers, availability of advanced training resources for the Stoneham Fire and Police Departments, availability of additional resources, the overall quality of their proposal, references from other communities, and the deliverability of modern tools including automated chest compression devices and powered stretchers, and regional overdose tracking data.

“I want to thank the members of the Ambulance Selection Committee who reviewed multiple proposals, conducted site visits and ultimately identified Cataldo Ambulance as the best fit for our community’s needs,” Town Administrator Sheehan said.

The members of the committee that selected Cataldo Ambulance were, EMS Coordinator/Firefighter Jim McLaughlin, Town Health Agent Erin Hull, Chief Grafton, Chief McIntyre, and Procurement Officer April Lanni. 

Cataldo Ambulance also offers an impressive fireground rehabilitation system for long-duration emergency situations that can help allow police officers and firefighters to rest and receive medical evaluation during major events. Its ambulances carry Hydroxocobalamin, which can treat cyanide poisoning that can occur during firefighting. 

The contract between Cataldo Ambulance and the Town of Stoneham is a zero-bid contract and it begins June 30, with no gap in the delivery of services in town. The Town of Stoneham thanks its previous vendor, Action Ambulance, for its service.
