Town of Stow Announces Retirement of Building Administrator and Fire Chief

STOW – Town Administrator Denise Dembkoski announces that Building Administrator and Facilities Director Craig Martin and Fire Chief Joe Landry will retire this summer after decades of service to the town.

Martin will retire effective July 2, and Chief Landry will retire effective Aug. 11.

“These two gentlemen are the epitome of professionalism and dedication, effectively serving the residents of Stow. It has been a true pleasure to get to know them and work with them,” Town Administrator Dembkoski said. “They will be sincerely missed by so many and will be leaving very large shoes to fill. I wish them nothing but the best in their retirements.”

Craig Martin

A lifelong Stow resident, Martin began working for the town in June 2007 as the Building Commissioner and Facilities Director. Prior to taking the job in Stow, he worked as a civil engineer for 23 years in Bolton and Norwood, managing engineering projects as well as multiple employees in the private sector.

Martin started his career with the Beta Group, Inc. in Norwood, managing projects ranging from wastewater collection systems to drainage systems to sewer system studies and evaluations as well as managing a group of employees and a budget.

After that, Martin moved to Ducharme & Dillis Civil Design Group, Inc. in Bolton, working as a principal. Martin managed projects like civil site planning and public water supply design, all day-to-day activities, a full budget and was responsible for developing new business opportunities. Over the course of his career, he worked and established relationships with multiple municipalities and private companies, completing major water and sewer projects.

During his tenure with the Town, Martin reflects on two projects he was proud to have been involved with. He served as a member of the Elementary School Building Committee for additions and renovations to Center School completed in 2012 and he was the Construction Manager for the construction of the Pompositticut Fire Station /Community Center which opened in 2016.

Martin received his associate’s degree from the Franklin Institute and his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Northeastern University in 1978. He will retire after 14 years of service for Stow.

Chief Joe Landry

Chief Landry will retire effective August 11, 2021. He began his career with the Stow Fire Department in 1985 as a call firefighter and worked his way up to Fire Chief in 2013. 

Chief Landry has worked numerous roles within the Stow Fire Department and the Town of Stow, serving as a full-time firefighter, public safety dispatcher, highway department foreman, highway crew supervisor and highway head mechanic. He has also worked with the Maynard Fire Department as a firefighter, EMT, Captain and Shift Commander, the Boxborough Fire Department as a call firefighter and EMT, and the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services, Special Operations, as a driver/operator/technician.

The Chief has been very active in state and local fire associations and currently serves as Chair of Massachusetts Fire District 14 and sits on a number of their subcommittees.

Chief Landry received his associate’s degree in fire protection and safety technology from Middlesex Community College and his bachelor’s degree in fire science from Anna Maria College. He will retire after 36 years of service in Stow.
