NORWOOD — General Manager Tony Mazzucco and Morrill Memorial Library Director Clayton Cheever are pleased to announce that Library Technical Services Assistant Patricia Bailey will be presenting at the Massachusetts Library Association (MLA) Conference next week.
Bailey will be speaking at the event on Tuesday, May 18 during the Paraganza! Paralibrarian Annual Meeting and Awards session. She is currently serving as the awards chair of the MLA Paralibrarian Section.
Bailey is an active member of the MLA and in 2019 was honored with the organization’s Outstanding Library Support Staff of the Year award. The award recognizes a library staff member who goes above and beyond the limits of the job title and who exemplifies the ideal that true professionalism isn’t limited to professional librarians.
As a technical services assistant at the Morrill Memorial Library, Bailey orders, receives and prepares books and other materials so that they can get onto the shelves and into the hands of patrons. She also spearheads many other initiatives, including the library’s annual Norwood 101 New Resident Open House and Orientation program. Additionally, Bailey serves as the leader of the monthly Turn the Page Book Club.
“Patty uses her passion for reading and eagerness to learn to continually come up with innovative ways to make the library a better and more welcoming place for the community,” said Morrill Memorial Library Assistant Director Lydia Sampson. “She goes above and beyond and is a team player, and I am so happy to see her hard work and enthusiasm for library services recognized through her role at the MLA conference.”
The 2021 conference will take place virtually next week from Monday, May 17 to Wednesday, May 19. The conference consists of a series of informational sessions, including topics surrounding inclusive library services, social media plans for libraries, anti-racism reading groups and more. The conference also consists of interactive activities, including music bingo and trivia challenges.
