Town of Bridgewater Appoints Azu Etoniru as First Department of Public Works Director

BRIDGEWATER — Town Manager Michael Dutton is pleased to announce that Azu Etoniru, town engineer, has been appointed to serve as the town’s first Department of Public Works director.

Etoniru has over 35 years of experience in both the public and private sectors. He was appointed to the position on Tuesday, April 27 and begins in his new role immediately.

Etoniru has worked as town engineer for the Town of Bridgewater since 2016 and previously worked as the town’s conservation agent from 1989-2019. He also worked as the principal and chief of E.T. Engineering Enterprises, Inc. of Bridgewater for 28 years from 1988-2016. He has additionally held positions with the Town of Raynham, Town of Lexington and Briggs Associates, Inc. of Rockland throughout his career. 

Etoniru is the town’s first DPW director. In the new role, he will oversee the Town Engineering, Roadways, Facilities, Solid Waste, Water Supply and Water Pollution Control departments.

“The creation of a true, structured DPW has been an overarching goal for several years,” Town Manager Dutton said. “Azu has extensive experience and education related to civil and environmental engineering, land surveying and more, and is a member of several national, regional and statewide professional associations related to the industry. With his appointment, I am confident that we have selected the most qualified person to lead the department. With multiple public works projects under way or in development, we are looking forward to him hitting the ground running.”

Etoniru holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, a master’s in economic policy and planning and a master’s in civil engineering, each from Northeastern University. He also holds a certificate in professional land surveying from the Wentworth Institute of Technology.
