Burlington Public Library Awarded Grant to Expand Art-Related Programming

BURLINGTON — Library Director Michael Wick is pleased to announce that the Burlington Public Library was recently awarded a $3,495 CARES Act grant, made possible through funding to Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services as administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

The funding will be used to offer a series of programs called “Craft, Create and Make: Art Exploration with the Burlington Public Library.” Classes will include a comics drawing class, Henna Alchemy, “Story and Art” programs for children, adult and teen paint nights, an adult sculpture class that will be offered in conjunction with the New England Sculpture Association, a program with artists whose work is featured at the Burlington Sculpture Park, and more.

These classes will be taught by local artists and BPL librarians. Additionally, from the library website, patrons will be able to subscribe to Creativebug, which offers a collection of thousands of award-winning art and craft video classes taught by recognized artists.

Craft, Create and Make programs will be ongoing throughout the Spring and Summer. These programs will be a continuation of the well-received craft programs offered by the library during the last few months, including the recent Burlington Online Quarantine Community Art Project.

“Over the last few months, we’ve seen a lot of interest in art-related programs and services from library-goers,” Wick said. “We are excited to be able to expand these offerings in the coming months and are grateful to receive this funding to allow us to do so.”
