Weymouth Public Schools Hires New Dean of Students, Director of Physical Education and Athletics 

WEYMOUTH — Superintendent Jennifer Curtis-Whipple is pleased to announce that Jennifer Mendicino has been hired as the district’s new Dean of Students, and Robert O’Leary has been hired as the new Director of Physical Education and Athletics.

“We are pleased to have two new additions joining the high school’s administrative team for the 2020-21 academic year,” Superintendent Curtis-Whipple said. “We’re excited to have both of them join our team, and for this new chapter at Weymouth High School.”

Mendicino and O’Leary were introduced at the School Committee Meeting on Thursday, July 23 and will begin their new roles Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Jennifer Mendicino, Dean of Students

Mendicino currently works as the Assistant Principal for the Massachusetts Department of Corrections in Milford, where she supervised academic teachers and education specialists, developed and implemented standards-based curriculum and assessment, administered standardized assessments and more.

Prior to her position as the Assistant Principal, Mendicino also worked as a school counselor for the Department of Corrections and has had experience as a social worker and substance abuse clinician. She also has previously been a Hall Director at Quinnipiac University, and a Counselor and Assistant Director/Area Coordinator at Dean College.

She holds a Master of Education in School Counseling from Keene State College in Keene, N.H. and is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine with a focus in Educational Leadership.

In this role, Mendicino will be responsible for implementing programs and academic structures that embody the Weymouth High School vision and mission, facilitating student access to academic programs, services and opportunities and planning, organizing, administering, managing and coordinating school programs. She will also be designated to a group of students that she will support for a duration of four years at the high school.

Robert O’Leary, District Athletic Director

As Weymouth Public School’s Director of Physical Education and Athletics, O’Leary will oversee all district-wide physical education programming and athletics. He will plan, develop, direct, supervise and administer the physical education program, all extracurricular athletic activities and the Pre-K-12th grade coaching staff.

Prior to this, O’Leary served as Portland Public Schools’ athletic co-curricular director in Portland, Maine. While at Portland Public Schools, O’Leary was responsible for 17 varsity and 23 sub-varsity teams as well as over 50 clubs and activities. He also served as the athletic director for Saugus Public Schools and Winthrop Public Schools.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in business with a minor in sports management from New England College in Henniker, N.H. He also has an Athletic Administration Certificate from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) and is a certified physical education and health teacher.
