WINTHROP — Town Manager Austin Faison and Public Health Director Meredith Hurley report that the Town of Winthrop has seen a recent increase in confirmed cases of COVID-19, and ask residents to remain vigilant against spreading the novel coronavirus.
The Town of Winthrop has identified eight new cases of COVID-19 today, and 15 new cases this week. Today’s eight new cases are the largest single-day increase since May 1.
“I am concerned that, with the arrival of summer and increased opportunities to take part in different activities, that residents may be letting down their guard,” Hurley said. “It’s important to remember as we progress through phases of reopening that the only thing keeping us from halting that progress is our continued vigilance and proactive efforts to curb the spread of the virus.”
Residents are reminded that they should be wearing masks or face coverings whenever they are in places where social distancing — maintaining six feet of distance from others — is not possible.
Winthrop has had a total of 258 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the outbreak began. Of those, 24 have died and 217 have recovered.
