Maynard Fire Department to Showcase New Equipment

MAYNARD — Fire Chief Anthony Stowers is pleased to announce that the Maynard Fire Department will showcase the upgraded equipment it has obtained through the support of state funding later this week.

WHEN:

Friday, June 28, at 1 p.m.

WHERE:

Maynard Fire Department, 1 Summer St.

WHO:

  • Members of the Maynard Fire Department
  • State Sen. Jamie Eldridge

WHAT:

During last year’s legislative session, State Sen. Jamie Eldridge and State Rep. Kate Hogan worked to secure a $100,000 grant that has allowed the Maynard Fire Department to upgrade its station.

Some of the funds have been used to obtain office equipment, the majority of the funds have been expended to acquire critical equipment that will help improve firefighter health and safety. The Maynard Fire Department is in need of a new station, but this equipment will provide immediate upgrades to its existing facility and can be moved to an eventual new station.

“We certainly appreciate Senator Eldridge’s commitment to Maynard and firefighter health and safety, which is on display through the support he’s helped provide to our department,” said Fire Chief Anthony Stowers. “We will continue working cooperatively to build a new facility, but this funding allows for immediate help in multiple critical areas.”

The department has obtained gear lockers that will protect firefighters’ equipment from UV light when not in use, as well as a state of the art turnout gear extractor and dryer that cleans gear of harmful carcinogens following a fire or other incident.

“Maynard firefighters are committed to daily training and the investment in equipment and props to heighten the intensity of the training are invaluable,”

said Captain and Department Training Officer Michael Parr. “These additions will help the firefighters of Maynard hone skills and better protect the community”

“We are happy that legislators and local management are concerned with our health and safety and have taken steps to reduce our health risks,” said Mark Tomyl, President of Maynard Firefighters IAFF Local 1947.
