East Bridgewater DPW Notifies Residents of Upcoming Roadwork at 5-Leg Intersection on Plymouth Street (Route 106)

EAST BRIDGEWATER — Department of Public Works Director John B. Haines would like to notify residents of upcoming roadwork at the five-leg intersection that connects Plymouth Street (Route 106) with Washington Street, Old Plymouth Street, Davenport Road and Murray Road.

On Monday, May 6, construction will begin on the realignment of the intersections of  Washington Street at Plymouth Street and Old Plymouth Street at Plymouth Street.

Once the project is complete, all traffic traveling south down Washington Street will be directed toward Plymouth Street by veering right until a stop sign at the intersection. All traffic travelling north on Old Plymouth Street toward Plymouth Street will now veer right to a stop sign at the intersection. Cars at these stop signs will now be perpendicular with Plymouth Street and drivers will have to look both ways down Route 106 before pulling out onto the road in either direction.

It should be noted that traffic travelling on Plymouth Street will not be impacted in any way. Drivers travelling south down Plymouth Street will still be able to turn left onto Washington Street or veer right onto Old Plymouth Street in the normal fashion. The reverse is also true, where drivers heading north up Plymouth Street will still be able to turn left onto Old Plymouth Street or veer right onto Washington Street. None of the other streets in the 5-leg intersection will be impacted.

“We will be widening and reconstructing the concrete islands at the two intersections in order redirect traffic on Washington Street and Old Plymouth Street so they will have an easier line of sight down both sides of Route 106,” Haines said. “As many know, this intersection has been a troublesome area as far as crashes in recent years. The realignment of the intersections will help make things easier for traffic to pull out onto Route 106, while also not impacting those drivers already on Route 106 who want to travel onto Washington or Old Plymouth.”

The realignment project is expected to last until mid-May and should have limited impact on traffic. Workers will be on-site Monday-Friday between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. while the project is ongoing. Temporary lines and new signage will be posted in order to make drivers aware of the change in the intersections.
