Littleton Police Respond to Fatal Canoe Incident Last Night

LITTLETON – Chief Matthew J. King regrets to report that the Littleton Police Department, as a result of a coordinated search, found the body of a missing canoeist near the shoreline last night.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., officers received calls of a missing canoeist on Fort Pond, 5 Charter Way. Upon arrival, officers learned that the canoeist, a 21-year-old Boston man, went canoeing by himself around 7 p.m. and never returned.

A thorough search, conducted by the Littleton Police and Fire Departments, led officers to locate the man approximately 20 to 30 feet from shore. His body was recovered by Littleton Police.

“This is a tragic ending to a holiday weekend adventure,” Chief King said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families involved, and we ask everyone to remain extra vigilant as their weekend continues.”

The incident is under investigation by the Littleton Police Department and the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.
