Kayaker Rescued from Merrimack River, Andover Police Investigating

Kayaker Rescued from Merrimack River, Andover Police Investigating

ANDOVER — Chief Patrick Keefe reports that the Andover Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the kayaker who was rescued from the Merrimack River today.

Around 12:30 p.m., a 50-year-old Lawrence man was pulled from the river by Lawrence firefighters after he fell out of his kayak. The firefighters were conducting training in the water at the time.

Firefighters rescued the man on the Andover side of the river and administered CPR. The man was transported to Lawrence General Hospital and later transferred to a Boston hospital.

The Andover Police Department and State Police Detectives assigned to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident.
