Concord Police Work with Department of Public Works for Bicycle Safety and Recycling Event

CONCORD — Chief Joseph O’Connor is pleased to announce that the Concord Police Department partnered with Concord Public Works to assist with its bicycle safety and recycling event yesterday.

On Wednesday, June 22, from 4-7:30 p.m., residents were invited to Concord Public Works, 133 Keyes Road, to participate in the new “Re-CYCLE Bike Giveaway” event.

Residents had the opportunity to browse through a selection of bikes — that had been given to the Public Works Department at its drop off event in May — to take home and enjoy.

By the end of the day, the Public Works Department gave away 30 bicycles to interested residents.

Additionally, Concord Police worked with ATA Cycle in Concord to provide free helmets to the first 10 children who received bicycles. Officers Rob Capone and Kallie Koppenal attended the event to offer bicycle safety information to the community.

“We appreciate Concord Public Works for reaching out to the Police Department to be a part of this event. Together, we were able to find new homes for recycled bicycles while providing valuable safety tips to residents,” Chief O’Connor said. “Thank you to ATA Cycle, who helped make this program a success.”

Twelve bikes remained after the event. They will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester and Worcester Earn-A-Bike, a nonprofit bicycle shop dedicated to teaching bike maintenance to people while enabling them to earn a bike from their inventory of donated cycles.
