Statement of Ipswich Police Chief Paul Nikas on Successful Prosecution of Firearm Theft Case

IPSWICH – Police Chief Paul Nikas releases the following statement regarding the successful conviction of a Peabody man for stealing from a gun store in Ipswich.

STEPHEN GOUDREAU, AGE 32, OF PEABODY, was arrested on March 5, 2014 and charged with Larceny of A Firearm (two counts) and Possession of A Firearm Without A License (two counts). He peaded guilty to the offense on August 28, 2015 and will serve 37 months in federal prison, followed by 36 months of supervised probation.

“This was a case of great teamwork and investigative police work,” Chief Nikas said. “Investigators put many hours into gathering the evidence to build a case and ultimately arrest this suspect. I congratulate our department and the other departments involved on their hard work and assistance with this incident.”

According to investigators, an employee of Patriot Firearms on Turnpike Road in Ipswich, discovered that two pistols were missing from his store’s inventory on Feb. 28, 2014. Upon review of surveillance tapes from the time the firearms went missing, investigators determined GOUDREAU as a suspect. Police also recovered a stolen weapon with ammunition and clips from the scene. After further investigation, detectives were issued two search warrants, which were executed by the Ipswich Police Department and the Lowell Police Department.

Chief Nikas would like to commend the work of Lt. Jonathan Hubbard, Detective Peter Dziadose, Detective Edward Gallivan and Patrolman Jason Sinclair of the Ipswich Police Department, Special Agent Daniel McPartlin of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and Massachusetts State Police Trooper James Crump from the Crime Scene Service Section.
