Wakefield Police Locate and Assist Suicidal Teen

WAKEFIELD — Police Chief Richard Smith reports that the Wakefield Police Department was notified this morning at 1:50 a.m. that a distraught and suicidal 19-year-old male had been reported missing by his mother.

Further information gathered was that he was also under the influence of liquor and may be armed with a knife. Units were dispatched to the area of two potential addresses in Wakefield.  The motor vehicle that he had been operating was located on Bryant Street.

An area search was begun and the subject’s phone was tracked to the area of Church Street. Units scoured the area searching yards and parked vehicles for a prolonged period of time. The State Police also sent a K-9 to aid in the search. The Wakefield Fire Department responded to assist with their thermal imaging camera.

Further cell phone data indicated that the phone might be located along the shore line of Lake Quannapowitt. Wakefield Officers David Rando, Jon Burnham and Matt Chambers along with two State Troopers made their way through waist deep snow to search along the shore and the lower common.

The search lasted for nearly 2 1/2 hours when the young man was located behind a tree and some large snow banks along the lower common area.

Action Ambulance transported the individual to a local hospital for evaluation.
