GEORGETOWN — Police Chief Donald C. Cudmore is pleased to announce that the Georgetown Police Department has been recognized with an award from AAA for its efforts in ensuring pedestrian safety in town.

Georgetown has not had a pedestrian fatality in 34 years.

In addition, Chief Cudmore nominated Georgetown Police Sergeant Thomas DeJoy as the department’s Hero of the Year. Pictured above is Sergeant DeJoy (left) receiving his award from Chief Cudmore.

“Each morning school is in session, Sergeant DeJoy reports for duty prior to his assigned shift and stands a Crossing Guard post for elementary children. He does this each day without additional compensation and has set an example for police officers to ensure public safety during his tour of duty,” Chief Cudmore wrote in his letter to AAA nominating Sergeant DeJoy as Hero of the Year. “As a resident of Georgetown and a parent, I want to thank and commend the Sergeant for these exemplary efforts each day.”

Sergeant DeJoy is a 32-year veteran of the department assigned as the Commander of Dayshift Operations.
