Georgetown Police Arrest Three After Major Drug Investigation

Search Warrant Yields Heroin and Rooms Full of Stolen Property, Believed to be from House Breaks in Georgetown, Topsfield, and Newbury

GEORGETOWN — Police Chief Donald C. Cudmore reports that the Georgetown Police Department on Friday afternoon arrested three people after a search warrant on a residence yielded a quantity of heroin and rooms full of stolen property believed to be connected to burglaries and robberies in at least three communities.

“Heroin is a problem in every community. It destroys lives and families and can have a devastating effect on neighborhoods. In Georgetown, we refuse to turn a blind eye to the problem, and we will continue to aggressively pursue those who allegedly attempt to manufacture and sell these poisons,” Chief Cudmore said. “In this investigation, we see an unfortunate mixture of the sad results of the drug trade.”

As a result of the diligent, long-term investigation, NATHAN M. CARON, AGE 22, SHERYL S. SAVAGE, AGE 63, and KRISTINE JANE LYNCH, AGE 30, ALL OF 6 DUMMER AVE. IN GEORGETOWN were arrested.

The investigation into alleged heroin dealing led police to seek a search warrant for the home shared by CARON and SAVAGE, on Dummer Avenue in Georgetown. (LYNCH also lives at the home and is an acquaintance to SAVAGE’S son. The son was not present, nor was he arrested or charged with a crime.)

During the search, detectives observed, in plain view, jewelry, power tools, electronics, and tool cases, some of which displayed the names of contractors or Georgetown residents who are known to be victims of recent thefts or break-ins. This led police to seek a second search warrant to authorize the seizure of the property. After receiving the second warrant, police located more property throughout the house, in several rooms. The investigation is still ongoing, but Georgetown Police Detectives have so far linked the property to thefts and break-ins in Georgetown, Topsfield, and Newbury. The Georgetown Police Department is working with police in those communities and inquiring with others.

Detectives also located blank and filled out personal checks belonging to several neighborhood residents.

The Georgetown Police Department is working with the victims to return property and help them identify any missing funds.

There was so much evidence from Friday’s search warrants, that it took nearly 48 hours to inventory and process everything.

CARON was charged with:

• Possession of a Class A Substance (Heroin) With Intent to Distribute
• Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
• Possession of a Dangerous Weapon (knife double edged)
• Larceny over $250 (4 counts)
• Possession of Burglarious Tools
• Breaking and Entering into a Building During the Nighttime to Commit a Felony (3 counts)
• Breaking and Entering into a Vehicle During the Nighttime to Commit a Felony
• Receiving stolen property over $250

SAVAGE, who owns the home, was charged with:

• Being Knowingly Present where Heroin is Kept
• Possession to Distribute Class A Heroin
• Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
• Receiving stolen property over $250 (5 counts)

LYNCH was charged with Being Knowingly Present where Heroin is Kept 

CARON, the primary target of the investigation, is charged as a repeat offender. He also has open court cases out of Haverhill and Georgetown.

The suspects were released on bail and will be arraigned Monday morning in Haverhill District Court.
