North Reading Police Charge Man with Possessing Child Pornography
Investigation Handled In Cooperation with State Police and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children
NORTH READING — Police Chief Michael P. Murphy reports that Massachusetts State Police Cyber Crimes Unit and the North Reading Police Department today arrested a resident for allegedly possessing child pornography.
AUGUSTINE RUSSO, AGE 62, OF MAIN STREET, NORTH READING was arrested without incident after North Reading and State Police served a search warrant on his home Wednesday afternoon.
The investigation began in September, after a Cybertip was received by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, indicating an email address on a computer, both of which police later linked to RUSSO, had uploaded child pornography to a social networking website.
During execution of the search warrant, investigators found additional images of child sexual abuse and other evidence on RUSSO’S laptop and on a flash memory card that may lead to additional charges.
RUSSO was brought to the North Reading Police Department for booking and was being held on $5,000 cash bail. He will likely be arraigned tomorrow in Woburn District Court.
The case remains under investigation. These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
