Winchester Police Department Investigating Email Threat Against Winchester High School

Classes and Activities Cancelled on Monday

WINCHESTER — The Winchester Police Department is investigating a threat made against Winchester High School early this morning.

A school administrator received an email shortly after 5:15 a.m. Monday, which made a non-specific bomb threat to the high school. After consulting with Winchester Police, the decision was made, out of an abundance of caution, to cancel classes and after-school activities on Monday.

The Winchester Police Department activated the the Northeast Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) School Threat Assessment and Response System (STARS) protocol, which brought in specially-trained law enforcement officials and school administrators from several other communities to assist Winchester.

The Department was also assisted by K-9 units from: The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (2 dogs), The Massachusetts State police (2 dogs), NEMLEC, and the Quincy Police department.

After an investigation, it was determined that the threat was not credible.

Winchester Police are actively working with state and federal authorities to determine the source of the threat.
