Pedestrian Struck and Killed on High Street in Dedham Tuesday Morning
DEDHAM — Police Chief Michael J. d’Entremont reports that the Dedham Police and Fire Departments are investigating a fatal traffic accident involving a pedestrian, which occurred early Tuesday morning.
Police and Firefighters responded at 6:59 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle on High Street across from St. Mary’s Church. On arrival, officers found the victim laying in the church parking lot. She was taken by Fallon Ambulance to Norwood Hospital, where she died of her injuries.
The victim has been identified as Anne McIntyre, age 70, of Dedham.
The facts and circumstances of the incident are under investigation. It appears at this time that Mrs. McIntyre was walking across High Street to attend 7 a.m. mass at St. Mary’s, when she was struck by a 2013 Nissan Frontier pickup truck driven by a 25-year-old Boston man.
The driver immediately pulled off the road and called 911. The driver, who was emotionally distressed, was transported by the Westwood Fire Department to a local hospital as a precaution. He has not been cited at this time.
The incident remains under investigation. Police are looking at solar glare as a possible contributing factor.
“This appears to be a tragic accident, which took the life of a local resident,” Chief d’Entremont said. “We will conduct a thorough investigation, and the Dedham Police Department asks members of the media to please respect the privacy and grief of Mrs. McIntyre’s family.”
The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and a member of the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office Motor Vehicle Homicide Unit also responded to aid in the investigation.
