Woburn Police Investigating Kidnapping Near Woburn District Court
Child is Safe, Suspect In Custody, Investigation Continues
WOBURN — The Woburn Police Department is investigating a troubling situation that occurred this afternoon near Woburn District Court.
A woman and man reported to police that they were at the courthouse this afternoon for a proceeding. They told police that they allowed a man, whom they have only known for a day or two, to watch their car, which had their 20-month-old daughter inside.
When they came back outside, the man, vehicle, and child were gone.
Police began an active and aggressive search. About 45 minutes later, police found the vehicle.
As a result, VICTOR BAEZ Jr., AGE 36, OF WORCESTER has been arrested and charged with:
- Kidnapping of a child
- Receiving stolen property (Motor Vehicle)
- Reckless endangerment of a child with rick of serious injury
- Operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, subsequent offense.
He is being held at the Woburn Police Department pending his arraignment tomorrow at Woburn District Court on Monday.
BAEZ is a Massachusetts Level 3 Sex Offender for a 2004 offense out of Worcester. BAEZ is being evaluated at an area hospital.
This is an active and ongoing investigation, and the Woburn Police Department will update the public as it progresses.
The parents are residents of New Hampshire.
The child is safe. She is being evaluated at an area hospital as a precaution. The Department of Children and Families is investigating.
All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
