Arlington Police Arrest Man for Videotaping Women in Cafe Restroom

ARLINGTON — Police Chief Frederick Ryan announces that a man was arrested this morning for allegedly placing a video camera in the women’s restroom of a local cafe.
JOSEPH B. HENNESSEY, AGE 53, OF SALEM, N.H. was arrested at the scene and charged with Disturbing the Peace and Photographing an Unsuspecting Nude Person. He is being held without bail at the Arlington Police Department pending his arraignment Monday in Cambridge District Court.
This is Arlington’s first case under MGL 272, Section 105.
Arlington Police responded to the Kickstand Cafe, located at 594 Massachusetts Ave. at about 8 a.m. Saturday for a report of a suspicious person. An investigation showed that HENNESSEY allegedly placed a camera in the women’s room and was streaming the video feed to a device he was using inside the common area of the restaurant.
Police seized the electronic devices and are applying for search warrants for those devices. The Arlington Police Department will also speak with authorities in HENNESSEY’S home jurisdiction of Salem, N.H.
HENNESSEY is a Town of Arlington Department of Public Works employee who is presently out of work on workers’ compensation.
Police spoke with one female victim at the restaurant, and it is believed that HENNESSEY may have frequented other cafes and establishments in the Arlington Center area.
“This is a deeply troubling case, and I commend the victim for coming forward and helping us take this offender off the streets of our community,” Chief Ryan said.
The department is asking anyone who may have seen him or who feels that they may have been victimized to call Arlington Police at 781-643-1212.
All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
