Arlington Police Charge Juvenile in Connection with Mugging
Department Will Increase Patrols Around Bike Path
ARLINGTON — Police Chief Frederick Ryan announces that, after an aggressive and thorough investigation, the Arlington Police Department has has charged a suspect in connection with the August 14 robbery of a man on the bike path near Thorndike Field.
The Department will also increase patrols, particularly at nighttime, in the area, after another person was robbed in that area last night.
“The Arlington Police Department strives to create a safe, welcoming community for all, and we will not tolerate muggings in our town,” Chief Ryan said. “These felons will be identified and prosecuted, and we will be visible in the area to deter this kind of activity.”
In the August 14 case, a 17-YEAR-OLD JUVENILE MALE was charged today with unarmed robbery and assault & battery. He will be summonsed to the Middlesex Juvenile Court in Cambridge.
Last night, 18-year-old woman riding a bicycle on the path reported that she had been assaulted shortly before 9 p.m. by two men who tried to steal her bicycle. One of the assailants reported had a knife, but the woman was able to escape, on her bicycle.
The first suspect was described as a white male, approximately 6’4″ wearing dark cargo pants, a white T-shirt, possibly Nike sneakers, with dark hair with buzz cut and razor stubble. The second suspect was also a white male, approximately 6″ also with a buzz cut wearing a dark blue T-shirt with dark sweat pants with a neatly trimmed beard.
The Arlington Police Department will have additional patrols in the area, both as a community policing effort for cyclists and as a deterrent for would-be robbers.
Anyone with information on last night’s assault is urged to call Arlington Police at 781-643-1212.
All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
