Townsend Police Identify Suspicious Driver
Toyota Prius Seen at Timberlee Park August 10
TOWNSEND — Police Chief Erving Marshall announces that the Townsend Police Department has identified the operator of a silver Toyota Prius that was involved in suspicious activity in Timberlee Park on August 10, 2014.
On August 10, the driver was seen in the area where children were playing, acting suspiciously. When approached by an adult male, the operator stated that he was lost. When located by police, the operator was seen talking to a 15-year-old girl who was walking her dog in the area.
After extensive interviewing, this individual also admitted to being in the area of an 11-year-old girl who was frightened by his suspicious activities while waiting for the school bus on Highland Street back in January of this year. This incident was relayed to parents of children attending schools in Townsend by the school and also received distribution through local media outlets which led to reports of this vehicle in several other incidents in the surrounding area.
Chief Marshall stated that although this individual has admitted to no wrongdoing and there is insufficient evidence to charge him with a crime at this time, he remains under investigation and is on the department’s “radar screen.” His information has been relayed to other law enforcement agencies in the event that similar incidents occurred and no suspect was identified.
Chief Marshall also stated that any incidents that occur or have occurred and not yet been reported to police involving this vehicle or any other suspicious incident be reported to police immediately, at 978-597-6214.
